Michelins are usually one of the most hard wearing tyres made, they are certaintly a quality product and so they should be at the prices of them!.If your looking for a tyre to last then I can recommend Dunlop SP sports(more road noise but otherwise excellent),Continentals or the Michelins. If your looking for a tyre that will grip like brown stuff to a blanket then go for Pirelli(softer rubber and not that hard wearing) or Yokohama(very soft and won't last 5 minutes but incredible grip!).Really the choice between any major tyre manufacturer is down to personal choice and opinion, and obviously price.
I must say that I'm surprised that you say the Michelins don't feel right.I really do doubt that the tyres are to blame and there maybe a problem with the steering or suspension systems/settings.
