Only kidding. To be honest it sounds more like a mini-respray job to me. Fine wet n dry sandpaper to get rid of the sprayed area, and provide a key on the good paint where it has been oversprayed. I doubt you'll go near bare metal if you're careful. Get the right colour and spray it on nice and thin.
It might be worth removing the bonnet and spraying the lot? The panel gaps will help disguise it if the colour isn't absolutely spot on.
I did a similar job on my car a while back although to repair a really nasty series of scratches. The finish was pretty darn good if I say so myself, having never held a spray can in my life. The only problem was the colour match isn't perfect, although you can't tell in daylight only at night when the sodium street lamps are on - at night I have one bright orange door and three red.
