Hi Mike, i'm no mechanic by any means but i'm 99% sure that my wifes clio has the same engine. Her car was giving exactly the symptoms that you describe. We were told that the car does not have a
but I then found it, as you look into the engine bay, it was on the right hand side tucked under the dizzy cap. I replaced this following advice from the forum and all the problems vanished. Including getting the tools out and tidying away afterwards and the first mechanical job I have ever done on a car it took less than 40mins to do.
I am sure someone else will come along and give you more definate information but its so much the same as the problems that we had.
