I Have a 1.9dci (120) on a 53 plate with 130K.
I have just fitted a new set of boots (Vredestein to some strange chinese outfit) and mpg has dropped from around 53 to 47 measured by miles between tank filling (I find that the trip computer is a bit dizzy!). My irratic driving style is the same now as before so i can't blame that.
Has anybody experienced the same difference after changing tyres ??
I've just gone from an odd pair of tyres (Michein and Dunlop SP) on the front to two chinese budgets (Sunny's I think!) I have noticed greater tyre noise, but in terms of MPG if anything it is better, last two tank fulls have averaged 53 MPG. I figure if the rubber is a harder compound this will explain the greater noise (aswell as the deeper tread) and would also mean less rolling resistance hence slightly improved MPG, the downside is less grip (harder =less sticky for want of a better term). I'm no expert,
I just speak from experience
