Quick question. How old is the caravan?
Arround 1999 car and caravan manufactures changed the pin out of the AUX 12v feed.
I have had problems with my electrics, which after been fitted by renault, I re-wired correctly.
I have know carvans around 2002 still having the old connections.
The main change was the 12S(Grey accessory connector)
Pre 1998 there were 3x 12v feeds. (Fridge, Charge, and Aux)
1999+ there were 2x 12v feeds (fridge and Aux). Charge is now taken from Aux.
Pre1998 AUX was always on, now 1999+ all is switched.

However it is best to use something like ryder smart combi relay connector. (i do, and was fitted by my renault dealer).
It takes a constant 12V+ line, but will only switch on the output when the voltage is between something like 12.5 and 13.5v(off the top of my head). Ie when the alternator is running. If the car is struggling to deliver the required voltage, then the caravan is shutoff, without effecting the car.
