Hi PJA8 - glad to hear you got the TDC sensor cleaned and it has cured the problem. The only concerns I would have regarding your method of cleaning would be the risk of WD40 or the like getting onto the flywheel and contaminating either the clutch or dual mass flywheel if fitted. (both of which would be very costly to repair) Most contamination of the TDC sensor tends to be metal filings which are attracted to the sensor which is magnetic and spraying it in situ is unlikely to remove all the particles. I appreciate it can be a bu**er to remove but would definitely be cheaper in the long run.
