There does not appear to be a definitive answer regarding xenon lights and beam deflectors. My Renault dealer says I need them, other sources say you don't (the AA being one I think). As my French & Spanish are not very good I do not fancy my chances of explaining to the local law that I have xenon lights and don't require beam deflectors. Some cars haves switched that allow the lights to adjust from rhd to lhd - unfortunately the Renault Laguna does not have this feature.
For the sake of a few pounds it is safer to fit deflectors ( even if you don't need them) to avoid any fines on the continent. Also by using my headlight protectors it only takes seconds to put them on and off, saving all the hassle of where to locate the stick on deflectors and then clean all the sticky gunge off after and risk damaging the headlight front covers themselves.
