For anyone who cares - it's a half hour job and you don't need to remove the fuel tank but it does help to loosen the rear O/S tank strap bolt so you can pull the old cable out and new one in.
You do the whole thing from the O/S, reaching over the fuel tank where the filler hose goes through.
All you need is pliers and penetrating fluid (the adjuster mechanism will be rusty and the pin that holds the adjuster to the front of the cable will be stuck, requiring some...persuading).
Total cost: £14.
Time: Half hour ish.
