While 159mph is pretty high, the issue still remains that accidents are more often caused by inappropriate speed, which could be as low as 20mph in the wrong place at the wrong time. Most speed limits are arbitrary - the Motorway limit was introduced eons ago to help reduce fuel consumption at a time of great shortages. What's that got to do with safety. In terms of vehicle (and probably driver) capabilities, 70mph then is probably the equivalent of 90mph now.

Of course, "rules is rules", but it was an empty motorway at 02:00. I'd rather the speed laws were relaxed rather than just nailing this guy (if they do).
