I haven't had any experience of dci's yet,but I'm 99% sure that the waterpump is driven by the cambelt.If the timing was out then it could cause a problem similar to the one your experiencing.Was it a Main Dealer who changed the water pump?.
The chances of the fuel pump 'going' when the waterpump was changed are millions to one,so something doesn't add up here.
