If you have a trolley jack, rest the end of the pole on the jack and jack up until car lifts.
Pre-load the nut in other words.
Belt three bells out of top of socket/drive bar with a lump hammer to see if shock will help.

Or try Noel's grind the side of the nut off.

Well with the handbrake on and it in gear the car is still moving I had to put bricks behind front and rear wheels. The car still feels like its going to be lifted off the ground. I even tried flipping it over and jumping on it. Its quite odd.

I am using a jack stand to keep the thing stable. I will have a go again later *fingers crossed*

I checked the thread by following the thread checked it 3 times to make sure I was doing it right.

I really am tempted to cut the bloody thing off.
