Hi Haggis - its best to remove the engine cut-off valve first (this is located just above the EGR valve) - if you look or feel inside the inlet manifold you will see a small port - squirt plenty of carburettor cleaner down it as it will help soften the carbon desposits. Afetr removing the screws holding the EGR valve in place get a small punch and hammer and start to tap the valve (only hammer on th einner section) back and forth in a circular motion - don't be too heavy handed - you may have to repeat this process numerous times whilst spraying carb cleaner down the port and round the valve. If you are patient it should slowly start to rotate and you can then apply a bit of pressure to get it out - don't force it or you can cause damage. No jounting compound is necessary but I suggest you smear some copper grease on it to prevent it jamming - just in case you have to remove it later.
