Hi Jonnie 1000 ive got a mate who is a monkey he had the same problem as you, he tried and failed and had to get renault to do it. Sounds like your key has a seperate transponder in it so it will always start your car, even if it will not open it, your other key might last for ages, and you still have a spare if ever you need it. All it means is you will have to unlock the car yourself not with the button, this can be a little troubelsome though as it would only open the drivers door on his car just using the key and not the button.
