As TTT says, hearing the servo is no issue.
And all brake going hard after a few pumps with no engine is normal. Used all the stored vacuum.
Be a lot more worrying if they didn't.

May just be feel, may be indicating that the brakes need bleeding, could be old fluid or a pad jamming in a caliper.

A free brake test may be best bet but do not commit to work being done before sharing the results with us.
They offer these free tests to entice people and often load the work needed.
So just be wary.

Dunno that battery would or could have any effect so would put any connection down to simple paranoia
