I guess this is a 16v petrol.I would put it back to how it was(re-fit regulators??) and check the coils .If it's lumpy on idle and lacks power/hesitates on acceleration then I'd put good money on at least one of them being at fault.They will cause the engine to misfire intermitantly as and when they decide to not provide a voltage to go to the spark plug.
I would avoid using it as when the plug doesn't spark the unburnt fuel goes straight out of the exhaust and this will eventually damage the catalytic converter.
