I've done all that. Footbrake bites well one-third of the way down, which is correct. Also flushed and bled the brake fluid after 2 years to eliminate air/water issues. Sorry to inform you but steel handbrake cables do stretch with use over 6 years. Takes 4 clicks on the flat but at least 6 on an incline. Won't take much more stretch than that to become an MoT failure.
