Hi Dave and welcome to RenaultForums.
I've had my Scenic II for nearly a year now and so far so very good.
My only gripes have been; Optional parking sensors - the sounder is too quiet to the point of being useless! The other point is the rear wiper cuts out if you turn it on and off more than about five times in an hour (in drissle for instance) turns out that is due to a thermal cut-out on the rear wiper motor - My dealer supposedly fixed it but since winter returned so did the problem.
Other than that, I'm very pleased with my first ever Renault.
I bought the 1.9 dCi simply because I average about 300 miles a week and the 1.5 diesel just wouldn't hack it - although if you only do about 100 miles a week it would probably be the better option for you.
I average about 42mpg which for me is good enough after coming from a Mondeo that barely managed 26mpg !!
The electric parking brake is fantastic - the only problem is that when you then drive someone else's car, you drive around with the handbrake screaming because you get so used to just driving off without having to think about it!
If it the electrics or battery fails then there is a manual relase lever in the boot. But if you use it the car has to go back to the dealer to have the handbrake reset. I asked my dealer how often this has happened and he assured me it is very rare, so long as the car is maintained and serviced regulary (as natrually the braking circuit is checked as part of the service)
At the end of the day - go to the dealer, ask for a test drive and I think you will be impressed - I know I was - any doubts I had flew out of the window!!
But I still screwed them down on the price until I could hear the pips squeak!!
Book the test drive and let us know how you got on.
