Avantime - what is this

Evening all!

Whilst taking the cover off the engine of the Avantime this evening I noticed a pipe / connector that has perished.

Can anyone please confirm what it is? There are traces of oil on and around the seal on the top of the engine. Oil breather pipe maybe?

Is it easy to replace or would gaffer tape do the job?!

Cheers

Hugh

Looks like a breather pipe. You could bodge it up temporarily but if leaking it can affect engine performance - especially idle.

Thanky you young Sir!

I only took the engine cover off to try to clean out the throttle body as the car has been cutting out!

Does the pipe just drop down through to the bottom of the engine bay?

Re: Avantime - what is this

myself and "young Sir" discussed this recently.
Breather pipe is supposed to put the cruddy gas n the like back into the engine via the air intake after the air filter somewhere for emissions etc and it needs some bit of vacuum to suck the "badness" out in conjunction with the valve..

So it joins back into the air inlet hose?
