Car restoration - anyone ?

Has anyone gone to the trouble of restoring an old car, be it rolling or otherwise to roadworthy or show condition?

I have done two, a 1955 Land Rover of which was my first of which I got as a non running wreck to include ice damaged engine and a rotten chassis, that took about six years and taught me loads and my second was a 1977 VW Transporter ( Devon Eurovette Camper conversion) that was more a rolling rebuild as it was my daily driver for ten years. I restored both vehicles to roadworthy condition where the last I knew both are still on the road, in fact one day on the M40 I saw the old Land Rover going in the opposite direction where the owner knew my camper to give me a flash of the headlights, what was interesting though was the Land Rover was in the fast lane so I guess that old Rover 60 engine I fitted had been junked in favour of something more powerful.

I also restored a five year old Chinese Pioneer motorcycle of which was in dire need of restoration after only five years.

What brought all this up is though I vowed not to do it again, I can feel it coming again where I am doing my best to resist making my current wreck the object of that need.

step father spent most of the time doing triumph cars and the odd bike took them down to the last nut and bolt then rebuilt like new

Sometimes you just have to give into temptation.

In past, was well into rebuilding of one sort or another.
Either from need (rotten old motors)
Accident....hmmm, 3ltr Capri Facelift with front end offset by about 20 degrees but were plenty of others
Helping, couple of mates were well into it, highlights, Series One E Type, complete nut and bolt restore.
TR4A, Rebuild Chassis and upwards.
Sunbeam Alpine, Strip out, Weld, Repaint.

Love to get back into but 'Er Indoors has different ideas to me, she wants a Mini, I want a V8

Hi

see avatar .... still got 'old girl' but she really does need work, not got the time at moment, whilst we are caring for my elderly MIL, but the funds are sitting in a separate bank account waiting for the day to get her some new goodies. Hopefully when they stop putting dam salt on the roads,

Shoe horn a V8 into a mini

It is easier to take it apart than to put it back together
