If you are talking of light scratches from bushes or similar, cutting back will sort.

However, some colours really do show minor scratches from virtually anything, car wash brushes being one that can leave a faint pattern.
Cut it back and you are thinning the lacquer.
Eventually none left and thing looks far worse.
Black is one of the worst to show these marks.

Personally I'd leave well alone (except for a decent wax polish) unless I was selling the motor and wanted to maximise price
