I reckon it could be a small bit of metal flying about.
Which could be wheel bearing, could be in drums (if you have them), could be worn shoes/pads, could be tyre rubbing on something.

A wheel bearing will usually show play if it has failed. Jack up motor, hands at 6 and 12 o-clock on the tyre and see if you can feel any.
Not 100% as bearings can get noisy before they fail completely but better then guessing.

MOT tests cars on the day, at the time of the test.
Car could break something on the way home.
All they ever give is an indication of roadworthiness, not a guarantee.
And of course the bit of paper that says that vehicle can legally drive on the highways and byways of the UK for 12 months. (assuming nothing breaks.
