Similar issue with my 2004 Megane Authentique - petrol 1.6litre 16vvt manual 5dr. I've had it since new and it has only done 42,000 miles (67,000km).

However my bro-in-law says that cylinder closest to the gear box is not firing he has swapped around the plugs and the pencil coils on this cylinder and the problem continues with this cylinder! He is therefore suggesting a new CPU... Sound right??

I'd replaced both the tdc & cam sensor and loom thinking that was the issue.

If a new CPU is suggested then we're unsure how to source this from non-dealer here in Australia (where dealer gouging on parts is twice or three times as bad as in the UK!) and even less sure if possible to fit a new CPU without dealer coding!! FWIW engine has the dephaser noise which I will look to replace soon with timing belt change.
