Can I ask a few things (sorry);

1) When we say switch the ignition on, what point are we referring to; first turn, second turn or engine turnover point (does it even make a difference)?

The position is to the position where the dash lights come on ... ie just before ignition.

2) Does the bonnet need to be secured as soon as the battery is reconnected? .

I disconnected the bonet switch.

3) Do both terminals of the battery need disconnecting?

I only disconnected the Earth.

You see, the problem I have when I tried the sequence is that as soon as the battery is reconneceted the hazards start flashing and the alarm LED is on constantly (no flashing).

The alarm I have got is a Cobra one, so I thought this was the million dollar post for me

If you could let me know on the above questions I'd be grateful
Hope it works for you this time ... the 3 on & off's in the 20 seconds after battery connection seems critical, as I had a few goes before I got it right.

Best of luck ...

Why is it the older I get .... the better I think I was ?
