Sorry to hear that you have been yet another victim of the "bonnet release" issue.

There is a lot of debate on the best way forward, and it would appear the only logical step is the legal route. Official routes via investigations and reporting the matter to VOSA (the Government's agency responsible for Road Safety and Vehicle Recalls) have been infurtile - and resulted in a blank denial that a safety issue exists.
Instead, VOSA indicated was likely to be caused by lack of maintenance, and Renault indicates the same and that the it is also like that the last person who inspected under the bonnet didn't close the bonnet properly! (Even if this was a Renault dealer in some reported cases!). Because VOSA says no issue, I don't see much hope down this route, but would still recommend filing your case to Renault UK and VOSA in any case, to add your name to their list too!
Good luck, and please keep us up to speed on what you decide to do.
P.S. Please consider Meesh's (Michelle's) 10-Downing Street petition
for an investigation into VOSA's manner in which they completed their safety investigation! (They relied too much on what Renault "presented" to them!!)
