Sorry - I don't have a pic - I am just quoting from the Haynes manual - and can't post pics from the manual for copyright reasons even if I had them. The stop valve damper should have small bore pipe or pipes going to it - see what happens if you disconnect them. You could also try spraying some WD40 or the like around the plunger in case it is seized. The damper is a large butterfly which closes to stop the air going in and if it sticks shut engine will not start. I've posted a pic of the damper on the 1.9 DCi engine and although not the same it may give you an idea of the principle. The damper is arrowed in red - the yellow points to the EGR valve - just hope it doesn't confuse
