I would scrap road tax altogether and add an amount to fuel prices so if you use more,you pay more.Surely this is fairer?You can't possibly work out an average mpg figure for any car because different drivers drive DIFFERENTLY!
As for insurance I think it should be displayed in the windscreen(as Tax is now) so any T####R without it would be instantly recognisable and you could drive into them and reposess their house and sell it at a profit.If they don't own a house then you could bring back the stocks and put them on display in public with a bucket of tomatoes(or pumpkins because they hurt more) so we could humiliate them!.Or,anybody without insurance would have their car crushed and license taken away for 5 years,or............Sorry,rant over....

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
