One classic mistake with handbrake when replacing pads is to operate handbrake before fully extending the pistons, ie by pumping pedal till hard before using handbrake.
The ECB will extend fully, not meet the resistance it should and throw up faults.

If that is what you have done, remedy is pads back out, wind piston back in, at least one turn to reset system, put back together and pump brakes till hard.
Then handbrake.

Another is operating arm not being fully back when refitted.
