Totally understand your quandary.

My gut feeling, would be that the parts should be interchangeable, as it is much cheaper (for the manufacturer) to make changes to plastic parts than metal ones, and those plastic parts (albeit different to look at), would have to be able to fit the metal frame of the car.

It might be worth looking for models with a failed turbo /cambelt as those expensive failures can write a car off completely.
