Re: Odd starting problem with 52" Clio diesel

Power drain on the glow plugs??

Sometimes the starter motor takes more power then it should, knocking down the voltage available to the ECU and sensors.
So although they crank over nicely, nothing gets sent from the ECU and it don't fire up.

Given what you describe, I'm thinking glow plugs maybe doing similar but may be far off the mark.
Modern glow plugs are controlled by a little relay module that gives full power for a short time (very short typically) and then less until the engine warms up. If one is failing closed, could be dragging things down.

Relatively quick check with a multimeter, each should read around 6 Ohm to earth.
Or pulling the power feed from the module so they see nothing.
DCIs don't actually need glow plugs to start unless it is really cold but they do help reduce emissions.

Qashqai 1.6 spark driven, Kia Sedona 2.9 TDI, Scenic II 15DCi 2004 (SORN) not quite RIP.
