I would guess that this is more of an electrical fault rather than lack of oil pressure.
It maybe a problem with the oil pressure switch or dash read out.
Obviously an oil pressure test is advisable though,and if any problems are found and you have to replace the pump then I would definately have the cambelt changed at the same time.
As you quite rightly have done,it's not advisable to use your car until you can be sure that the oil pressure is O.K!.
Have you changed the oil and filter recently and use the right oil when topping up?

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
