The aircon dehumidifies the air which passes through it.

Also, in addition to inlet vents which are normally located at the base of the windscreen, there are vents normally around the rear lights which allow a flow of fresh air within the cabin from front to rear.

If that is blocked, then it would restrict how much air could enter.
