Hi madnoel10, thanks for the input and sorry I did not reply sooner but have been busy fixing the car...
I found the fault. What had happened was that when the original
which I replaced went faulty due to water ingress, it short circuited it's power supply to earth. Unfortunately this did not blow a fuse but burned out the connector inside the multi pin plug, so no power was getting to the
. I replaced the connector by cannibalizing an old computer, soldered the wire up to a new connector and inserted it into the plug. Now all working fine.
For other members who ever encounter a similar problem, the
power is supplied by the red wire on the smaller size pin six from the end of the plug away from where the wiring loom enters, on the right hand side.
