Unhappy Radio and Clock Problem

Firstly can I say what a well organised and polite forum this seems to be - makes a change!!

My problem is fairly straight forward and I have done a few searches without a real match.

Due to illness my Laguna 2.0 has been off the road for almost a year. Now I'm fit again so out comes the battery charger (the battery was (obviously) completely flat). The car started fine but:-
1. Will not tick over.
2. The radio won't come on.
3. The clock display has only a tiny triangle in the top right hand corner.

My 'man who knows everything about cars' has suggested that the car needs running for a while for the ECU to relearn. Does this make sense? I have checked fuses and everything seems fine. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.
