45 billion is gathered from road users each year.

6 billion is spent on roads

It doesn't stop at fuel tax. Petrol is 40p a litre, the rest is tax

Car insurance is taxed.

Your insurance is billed for national insurance costs if you are injured in a road accident, another "tax". If you injure yourself doing dangerous sports, eat to much, take drugs etc it is free.

1.1 billion a year tax is provided by speed cameras even though they have very little effect on accidents.

Vat on New cars, servicing, tyres, oil , etc.

There's even a tax on having your car stolen ! If the police recover it they charge you a tax of 150 to get it back.

Some misguided motorists even want the congestion charges to be brought into play more widely

A problem well stated is a problem half solved !
