Hi Paul - it is removed as the Haynes manual says - use a small bladed screw-driver and hammer and drive the blade in a various points around the circumference until you get a gap and then using a larger screw-driver you can lever it off. Yes honestly it is dead easy - done thousands in my time. There is no gap or leverage point simply because officially you are supposed to renew the cap and hub nut each time.
