Turned out it wasn't anything to do with the cigar lighter,but some wires which were shorting in the fusebox itself.Its all fixed and my lights are working now,not bad for 30 either. . On changing the fuses,they are the 7.5 amp brown ones near the back of the fusebox.I had to use a pair of long nose pliers and the skill of a contestant on the krypton factor to actually change em.Hope you get it sorted and i hope i've been of some help.By the way,the rear numberplate light works off the same fuse.
