I remember seeing a TV programme about this. It's a blind spot that occurs when the centre-line of the car is more or less level with the nearside front corner of the cab. The truck driver thinks it's safe to change lanes, and because of the point of impact, actually sends the car into a spin. All that is needed is an extra blind-spot mirror on the truck, but the government refuses to make these compulsory becase, while such accidents are frequent, they're rarely fatal.

The politicians need a kick up the backside when it comes to road safety. These are supposedly intelligent people, but they can't see that there's more to it than regulating speed. And we thought the a***holes were the ones driving the cars.
