The 1.9 tdi is a very robust engine my 1999 phase 2 Senic 1.9dti Monaco has done 120k and is still going strong with no major faults. The only week point that it has (that I have found) is the alternator belt. It is VERY important that this is change at the perscribe milage or if it is showing ANY signs of damage. If this fails it can very easily wrap stray stands of belt around the lower cam belt pully. This in turn can cause the cam belt to jump and the valve timing to go out with distraous result as the piston hit the now open valves causing a very big repair bill. Mine did this but I was lucky as by a fluke I got away without any bent valves as the locating pin on the top cam pully sheared stoping the valves from fully opening.
