Pressing the button in and pulling the handbrake till you feel it's right,then letting go of the button is the right way to do it.
That way the cable will never stretch and the brake will always be on the right tension.
I cringe at the way some just yank it on,then of course come mot time wonder why it fails.
There should be 3 or 4 clicks to on.
I always leave vehicles in first which on a fwd vehicle leaves all 4 wheels locked and going nowhere even if the handbrake fails.
