Hve you played with any of the electrics lately? I ask because I had a similar problem on my Alfa after I, erm, shorted out a resister whilst attempting to change a bulb the (wrong way) on the heater controls. The ignition was on ...

Anyhow, for me, the only cure was a replacement heater control unit. I could momentarily switch the sidelights off by pressing the recirc button though....
