Assuming it's the same as the Scenic, handbrake automatically goes on when the engine is turned off, or when you start driving (forwards or backwards). You can manually put it on with a pull switch on the dash. It can be left off (in case of freezing, or long term park up etc.) by pushing a button in the middle of the manual switch as you flick the switch. There is also an emergency ( case of electrical c---k up) release in the boot (which must be reset by a dealer). It's a lot simpler to use than describe!
