Quick update here, I've done as all you clever people said to do - Spray lithium grease over the catch. Well now it works a treat and shuts perfectly. So a hat and a balloon to everyone for that.
Secondly bleeding the cooling system. I think this was more of a hit or a miss situation. I can only find one bleed thumbscrew so I gave it a try anyway and after a few seconds I had a steady stream of water. So I will keep an eye on the coolant level over the next week or so and see what happens and also the temp gauge.
