I wouldnt have thought a diagnostics check would have any useful output ... plus £150 ..
I assume that was a dealer ... I'd be surprised if an auto electricial or alarm specialist would charge anything like £150 .... as to cutting wires ... if you dont know what it is, its not a good idea.
IMHO, find an auto electrician and take the car there, and at worst get them to disable the system.
