Re: Sticking Hand brake

The friction plate(clutch plate)is in contact with the pressure plate and flywheel when the clutch pedal is not pressed, when pressed the thrust bearing presses on the prongs/fingers of the pressure plate this then forces the part of the pressure plate inner disc to come away from the clutch plate ,this in effect how it works,so when you drive the clutch plate ,pressure plate and fly wheel become locked to each other until you dip the clutch this then allows the clutch plate to spin and this disengages the engine from the gearbox allowing you to change gear,so if the car is in first or reverse ,then the gearbox is in effect locked to the engine which then stops the wheels rotating,it is locked in all forward gears but when used for parking purposes first or reverse as the weight of the car can make the car move in the other gears,
