Renault - Scenic - Heater Matrix removal / refitting 1.6e 1998

I've browsed and searched and cant find a remedy for my problem. I've used the guide to diagnose a blocked heater matrix and have located and removed the curent one and fitted a new (brand new) one, Initially I tried refitting the old old and I was getting the connections leaking with the silver pipes and the connection to the matrix, and suspected the matrix was blocked and ordered the new one. But the new one is doing the same. Is there something I have overlooked in refitting the matrix to the pipes?

I've used a new backing plate and screw to fit the two together to be on the safe side too.

In the box of the replacement there were 2 new silver pipes, but this looks like a complete dash-out to fit and I dont really want to take any more of the car apart as the existing pipes look OK.
