Hello and welcome to the forum.

I have seen two Fiat Tipos that have had alternator faults that lead to them over charging the battery(up to 16 volts),and one cooked the battery,but thats it.

If your alternator was charging up to 19 volts the battery would have exploded by now!.I would take the car to another garage and get a second opinion.Just ask them to make sure the alternator is charging correctly,and don't mention anything about being suspect of over charging.It will take a matter of seconds to do and they shouldn't charge you for doing it.Post back with your results.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
