Not saying it can't happen.
And TBH, a garage would probably take the route of replace.... after all, two hours of freeing off and cleaning covers a 100 quids worth of parts.
But cleaning and freeing off for the DIY mechanic makes it a right cheap fix.... time and some penetrating oil /diesel.... touch of copper slip.

(don't get any lubricant near friction faces)
