The best way of removing the rotating bolts is to grind the heads of with a small angle grinder - to replace drill 3mm holes alongside original bolt holes and fasten using self tapping screws. Just ensure all fasteners are well greased (coppper grease is best). To save me the hassle of having to remove the panel for my next
change I cut a section (about 150mm square) out just below the drain-plug. I then drilled 6 mm holes in each corner of the cut-out piece and also in the under panel and secured it with cable ties. Next time all I need to do is cut two of the cable ties open the door so-to-speak and away I go. Under no circumstances be tempted to use the car without the under shield - if small stones or debris get onto the drive belts it can cause timing belt failure leading to serious engine damage.
