Thumbs up success at last! Diesel starting problems cured

Hi all, after a struggle and much ar*ing about, here is my considered opinion on issues to do with a non-starting 1.9 diesel renault engine (in my case a '98 Kangoo van)

The problems were several
a) Sluggish, tired starter motor
b) air bleeding in at fuel filter
c) corroded TDC sensor
d) not firing up at all

So, I changed glow plugs - no start
cleaned corrosion off TDC sensor - no start
bled fuel filter repeatedly - no start
charged battery - starter still slow - no start

Had a little cry - felt like a tw*t for spending a grand on a duff van. Hated the idea of being charged a fortune at a garage (with no real hope of them solving problem). Drank whisky went to sleep. Woke up this morning and went to great lengths to ensure earthing was good; wire brushed and glass papered the earth connection to body, refitted start. Tried to kick a passing dog, but it ran off.

Then, I happened to notice that the round negative connector on the earth lead to the battery was actually loose even though the nut was really tight.........

Haven't stopped smiling since.....this forum is great, cheers!
