Sound deadening materials

Anyone in the group tried any of the aftermarket sound deadening materials ? I'm starting to get a little hacked off with the sound of my diesel engine plus tyre/exhaust noise.

Yes yes - don't say it - i'll always have noise because I have an old diesel lump under the bonnet - but have you seen the material they attach under the hood ? Looks like something from a very thin malnutritioned sheep. Have seen the Dynamat and B-Quiet websites as well as a couple of others (Fat Mat) but can't beat good old fashioned comments from real users.

I think I just want an excuse to strip the car down and start soundproofing the whole kit caboodle - all i'll need then is a sound meter to get some before and afters.
